Charged road network

Roads with the Dutch truck charge

You pay the Dutch truck charge (vrachtwagenheffing) on almost all motorways and on some provincial and municipal roads. Together this is called the national charged road network: 19,248 road sections, 7,954.94 km in total (as of 01-09-2026).

The network on the map

On the Tolmijden map the charged road network is a layer, switched on by default. This shows you exactly which roads count and which do not. For a calculated route you see how many kilometres run over the network.

Where does the network come from?

The charged road network is legally defined in the annex to the Dutch Truck Charge Act. The official map file is updated monthly. Tolmijden uses that file, linked to the Dutch national road database (Nationaal Wegenbestand).

Off the network

On roads outside the network you do not pay the charge. Even there, however, you need an on-board unit (toll box): if you go on the road without one, you can be fined, also on roads without a charge. See paying the Dutch truck charge.
