Tolmijdencalculate and avoid the Dutch truck charge

Weight

Maximum mass of the combination

For the Dutch truck charge (vrachtwagenheffing) it is not what your truck weighs on a trip that counts, but the maximum mass of the combination. That is the maximum mass of the truck itself plus the maximum mass of the trailers or semi-trailers it is allowed to tow.

How do you determine the weight?

vrachtwagenheffing.nl has a search tool for this. Tolmijden uses the RDW data.

The four weight classes

A tractor unit with semi-trailer is almost always in the class of 32,000 kg and over.

Reduced weight

An N2 truck that has been administratively downgraded to a permitted mass of 3,500 kg or less remains liable for the charge. The technical maximum mass then counts.

Frequently asked questions

Does the load count?

No. It is about the maximum mass the combination is allowed to have, not the actual weight on the trip.

Does it count if I do not take a semi-trailer?

Yes. The maximum towing weight counts, even if nothing is attached. See trailer and semi-trailer.
