Number plate
Dutch truck charge by number plate
Which rate of the Dutch truck charge (vrachtwagenheffing) belongs to your truck is recorded in the data of the RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority. Tolmijden looks it up for you as soon as you enter the number plate, and immediately tells you whether the charge applies to that vehicle.
What Tolmijden takes from the RDW
- Vehicle category: the charge applies to N2 and N3.
- CO2 emission class: the field "CO2 emissieklasse" in the RDW open data.
- Euro class: the exhaust emission level, for example Euro VI C.
- Weight: the technically permissible maximum mass and the maximum mass of the combination.
If a value is missing
Not every number plate has a CO2 emission class. In a sample of 600 trucks, about one in six had none, mainly tippers, refuse trucks, hook-lift trucks and cranes. Class 1, the most expensive, then applies. That is what the law says, and the RDW says the same. If the Euro class is missing, Euro 0 applies; if the weight is missing, the class of 32,000 kg and over.
If the CO2 class is wrong, check with the RDW how to have it corrected. See CO2 emission class.
Then the route
With the number plate entered, you plan the route. Tolmijden calculates the Dutch truck charge per road section and takes the height, weight and length of the truck into account. See calculate the Dutch truck charge.
Frequently asked questions
Does it also work with a foreign number plate?
The lookup uses the RDW, so only Dutch number plates. Without a number plate you choose the CO2 class and the drive type yourself and enter the dimensions.
Why does Tolmijden say the charge does not apply?
The charge only applies to trucks in categories N2 and N3 over 3,500 kg. A van (N1), car or bus does not pay the Dutch truck charge.
